Milestones

First Bath. She took it pretty well, without too much crying or complaining. But once clean, we put her in a towel and she immediately soiled it. Bath number two went just as well.

New and improved belly button. Her stub fell off, so here's a picture for all those omphalopsychites out there.

First walk. We took a walk to mail a letter and get some coffee. What a gorgeous day for a walk.

A study on scale

We think Olive has long feet and toes. And she does. But put to scale, they are the cutest little feet...

Torrey had the idea of buying a pumpkin that weighed as much as Olive did when she was born. Here's the result:

It Takes A Village...

An update on Olive's health: she lost weight after the birth (which is expected) and dropped down to 7lb 6oz. We increased the feeding schedule and she's back up to 7lb 11oz and all of her other vitals are looking great.

Thanks to everyone who has shown their love and support, visiting Olive over the past few days. Here's a sampling of the pictures we've taken that have turned out ok (Not being able to use the flash takes it's toll in many blurry pictures).

She's Here!!

Olive Elora Edwards

Birth Date: 10/18/2008 10:52PM
Birth Weight: 8 lbs, 2 oz
Length: 21.5 in

Mom and baby are doing fine. The water broke at 7:30am and we got to the hospital around 9:30am. Labor progressed at a normal pace through full dilation, and Mom (Torrey) took it all like a champ. Only Dad (me) took any drugs for the pain. Olive decided to try coming out "sunny side up" which ultimately led to Torrey needing an Epidural. It all came out well in the end, as our little girl came out with wide eyes for the world and a very calm temperament (and a head twice as tall as any normal head). She was welcomed by a full entourage of family (2 sets of grandparents, and 6 aunts, uncles and friends). She is precious, and we are both so very proud of her.

We are holding an "open house" at our condo for anyone who wants to come visit her on Tuesday and Wednesday (10/21 and 10/22) from 1pm to 8pm. No need to RSVP, just show up. There's a call box at the entrance to our building, so call up and we'll buzz you in. Here's our address:

Additional Info/Thoughts/Prayers

So, in case some of you are interested in that biorhythm stuff, here are some pages where you can calculate yours:

I was also thinking about what to do if I don't hit my initial predictions... well, so far this girl has been very by-the-book (at least the books I've read) in that she kicked on week 20, flipped at 32 weeks, dropped at 38, so why shouldn't she come ON her due date? Especially since it's the night of the 19th that I have a critical day for my physical biorhythm, which would understandably effect my going into labor more than the emotional or intellectual biorhythms...

Hey, I'm on maternity leave, I don't have much of anything better to think about. ;)

Either way, due to our last ultrasound suggesting that we're looking at a 9 lb baby, the doctor is urging me to do what I can to try and bring on labor sooner than later. But in the end I just figure God knows what he's about and this girl will come when she's ready, and I just have to be patient and wait (God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, right?). In the end all we're praying for is a healthy birth and baby - however that happens. WE CAN'T WAIT! =)

2 weeks to go! Or not..?

It's getting more and more real, though I can't say it will really be real until it's actually happening. Our bags are packed and in the car. After a few hours of wrap-up on Monday I'm on maternity leave until a month after the baby's born or November 17th, whichever comes later. We have one last ultrasound on Wednesday to get another idea of her size since the doctor is worried she may be a tad big - we won't induce early or anything, but it's just to help inform any decisions we need to make the day-of.

I'VE decided I'm having the baby about a week early. Of course, I'm totally aware I might be completely wrong, but let me tell you how I came to this decision:

1) I am one of 5 girls in my church community who were pregnant and due the 2nd half of this year. So far the three that have come before me were all 7-9 days early, so assuming I follow this trend I will have the baby the 11th-13th of October.
2) The full moon is on the 14th, and I have been told by many a nurse that deliveries are more prevalent at that time.
3) According to my sister you are more likely to go into labor on a critical day of your biorhythms. I have a critical day on the 11th and between the 13th and 14th.
4) However, my cousin is getting married that weekend, and I wouldn't wish to interrupt the festivities or make my family miss it, so I'm aiming for the 13th. That way my parents also don't have to drive back home, they can just come up from Portland.

What do you think? =)
